Preparation is key to a flawless paint job. Bowman Painting takes pride in making sure that when we finish a job you’re 100% satisfied with the new look. Adding a fresh coat of paint to a room, or to the outside of the house, is exciting, giving your home a whole new look and feel. However before the painting can be done, there are a few steps that need to happen to ensure there won’t be any damage to the rest of the room such as the flooring, the electrical outlets, crown molding, and much more. Here’s how Bowman Painting prepares for a paint job.
If It Moves, It Goes: We’ll move out as much furniture as possible. It’s ideal to start with an empty room. However, there might be some pieces of furniture that can’t be lifted, or there isn’t another spot to put them in the house. In that case, anything that needs to remain in the room is covered in painter’s plastic. This will protect the upholstery or wood from any stray paint drips.

Lay Down The Coverings: Once the furniture is removed a covering is laid down to protect the floor from paint. It also provides traction for our workers and the ladders they’ll need to climb. Plastic requires painters tape to stay in place, while the canvas is a stronger material that won’t move. Drips and paint spills won’t leak through onto the floor, and can be cleaned up much easier. Tools can be spread out without any fear of getting the paint all over the place.
Remove Electrical Outlets: If you don’t want the existing outlet covers to match the paint color the best thing is to remove them and replace them (or add new ones) when the paint has fully dried.

Patch It Up: If there are any nicks, holes, or other imperfections on the walls, they need to be patched up with drywall before the walls are painted. Patching will be done after the floors are covered to avoid the drywall drips from hardening on the carpeted or wood flooring.
A Clean Wall: The walls need to be cleaned before anything is painted. If there’s dirt, dust, pet hair, or any other foreign debris on the walls when the paint is applied, there’s a good chance it will flake off when the paint dries.

Tape It Down: One of the final steps we take is to tape areas that do not need to be painted, or will be painted with a different color. Painter’s Tape will protect these areas without damaging the wood or existing paint underneath.
